Instructions:
A simple QR Code generator focussed on MapRun requirements. I have exposed only basic configuration items and
preset things like Logo size based on the selected image size. The main advantage compared to other online generators is that this focusses on MapRun needs and includes the default
MapRun base URL needed, allows for an easy selection of multiple control numbers to be produced at one time, and the inclusion of a logo if desired. If you want to
do something more complicated you will need to find an online version or download my Windows app which is far more flexible but far more complicated. Note that
I have not tested every possible thing that can go wrong but it is server based so will not cause you any issues! If I have requests to
expose more flexibility (change colours etc) I can likely add these. For more details on Tag Based Punching click here.
Newly Added: The CUSTOM option allows the generation of more general QR codes (such as the event link, link to results or non MapRun related QRCodes. See the details below.
Setup:
- Select Error Correction (Default High): A higher Error correction allows for the reading of the QR despite dirt,
logos etc. Reducing this will make the QR smaller but increase the risk that it cannot be read.
- Select QR Image Size (Default Medium): This sets the approximate overall size of the main QR image.
Small is approximately 300 pixels, Medium 500 and Large 1000. Generally Medium works well for MapRun Control QRCodes.
- Select Logo (Default none): This accepts .PNG or .JPEG images to display in the center of the code.
The image will be reduced automatically to a size that works well with the overall selected Code size. Note: Don't try to use a very large file (over 1mb or so) as the script may time out.
- Frame - Use Frame (default) or No Frame: Select whether or not to add a frame around the QRCode.
- Label:
- Label - Use a Label (default) or No Label: This determines if there is a label area below the QRCode with the Control Number indicated.
- Label Colour - Colour Normal (Default) or Colour Inverse: Applies only if Label Use is set. Normal has a label fill in black and text in white. Inverse has a white (unfilled) label area and text in black
- Convert S,F - S,F to Start,Finish (default) or No S,F change: Within MapRun the Start Control can be S1, Start, STA1, STA and Finish can be F1, Finish, FIN1, FIN
(make sure you use one of these as the Control Code). The Default settings will change any code that starts with S/s or F/f to 'Start' or 'Finish' in the label (will not change the actual QRCode value).
- Select Output Format- PNG Images (default) or both PNG and SVG Images: PNG are Raster images while SVG are vector. Default PNG will Generally
be fine for most uses and will scale fairly well given the simplisity of the images. SVG have larger file sizes but scale easily and are well suited for website use and integrating into other apps, however
they are much harder to edit without more speciallized software or knowledge. With Both selected, the generation of the zip file will be longer and the download zip file size much larger.
- Base URL (Default http://www.maprunners.com.au?c= ): If you wish to use a different URL (such as your club address), change it here but make sure you include the ?c= at the end.
Also make sure you set up the event with this new URL in the options (or punching will not work).
- Control List (Default S1,F1,31-51): Enter the list of controls you wish to produce QR Codes for. This can be any combination of comma separate or a range. Example: 'S1,31,36-45,F1'.
- Custom: For a single QR based on text or a URL (such as the event results link) select CUSTOM, enter the URL/Text into the Base URL field
and whatever label you want into the Control List field. This WILL NOT include any MapRun Base URL. For longer Text/URL set the Image Size to Large.
Pressing the Prepare QRCodes will process your request, provide a summary of the configuration, previews the first QRCode in the list and allow you to select the Download.
The files will be downloaded as a standard compressed Zip file.
I suggest you just do one or two samples first to make sure everthing works before producing a larger batch. Also, you should test each code with MapRun to validate it can be scanned.
